02 The Doctrine Of God PT.2 (Trinity) - Olaopa Olajide Michael — Olaopa Olajide Michael
Alright. Um good day everyone. It's good to be here again. Um like your religion. My name is Ola Michael. And welcome to the second part of the teaching on the doctrine of God. All right, so um would we're looking basically as um an introduction to the concept of the Trinity in this part. All right. In the first part, we already discussed um a few things about God. about who God is, his attributes, where he comes from trying to answer those questions um using the Bible and um reasoning. And we're able to establish um a few things. By the help of the Lord. So in this part, we'll be looking at the Trinity. And um before we go into that, so on the attributes of God, I think that was where we rounded up on the last part. I will still echo us to please take our time, go through those attributes, look at them critically, try and see the beauty and the majesty of God. And on divine attributes, one of the things you should um knows is that all of those attributes are not um separate. They are all interwove or you can say they overlap into one another into one another. So, for example, when God is um one of the attribute of God is that God is love. Even though God is love, at the same time, is just. So it means that when God extends love to us, it doesn't deny or the other attributes that he have just in order to show love. I don't know if you get that. Just because God wants to express love does not mean that God will deny or release all his other attributes in order to show love. So, take for example, um the Bible said, for God so loved the world, so much that he gave his only begotten son. So, we realize that God loved mankind and wanted to save us. And in order to do that, he how to send his only begotten son. You will see two things as clearly, the love of God wanting to save man and the justice system of God, because God knew that in order for him to be just, someone has to take up the uh price for sins that men have committed. So, God will not just because he loved men, just pardon them freely like that without um the justice path being satisfied. And because of his love for us, he decided to take on human flesh to by himself, you know, pay that price for justice, to satisfy divine justice by himself out of love. So you keep seeing all of those all through scriptures, God being merciful, God being kind, all of his attributes are always at play in every action, in every decision. All right, so let's just pray before we go straight into what we have today. Father, we thank you. We appreciate you for this. Thank you for the privilege, privilege to hear and to share your word. Thank you for understanding. Thank you for your word that you always sent to us. We say be exalted, Lord, in the name of Jesus. So, Lord, we ask that as we proceed, you open our understanding. Give us insight into your word. Give us revelation into your word in Jesus name. Amen. All right, like I said earlier, we'll be looking at the doctrine of Trinity and um under this topic, this is just supposed to be an introduction into the um doctrine of Trinity under the doctrine of God. We are still under the doctrine of God. So, I should have made this um recording earlier. I should have done this session earlier, but this is one or two circumstances and during that period, I've also received questions from people on this same subject. So, I'll be trying to answer those questions during during the teaching and that means that it should not be you guys alone that will be listening to this teaching. So, I we have to send this teaching to a few persons after recording it. All right, so the word Trinity itself um comes from a Latin word. Trinitas, Trinitas which simply means that's literally that's literally the literal meaning. Simply means a triad or threefold. That's the literal meaning of that word. Now, although the word is not used in the Bible, the you will not find the word Trinity when you read your Bible, but the concept and the teaching is biblical. And you see it very shortly. So, and this should not be an issue because there are people who raise objections like um since the word that word the Trinity is not found in the Bible, then that means the doctrine is false. No. There are many doctrines that um we have come to give a particular name and that name might not necessarily be in the Bible, but it doesn't um negate the idea that that doctrine is in the Bible. So many of us, we have rapture, um second coming, we've even have the word second coming in scripture, when we begin to talk about the first and the second advent of Christ. It's not as if those words were explicitly used in scripture, but we just use that tag, let's let's call it a tag to describe a body of idea, a body of teaching that we can see in scripture, right? Just to see a body of um a body of scripture, a body of teaching that we can see in scripture, just to give it a tag. So, the doctrine of Trinity simply affirms that there is one God in three distinct persons. One God in three distinct persons. And it's as simple as that. And however, it is as complicated as that also, as we will see shortly again. So, these three persons are the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And I want you to take note of this definition again and don't forget it. One God in three distinct persons. Emphasis on the word distinct. That is, they are three distinct persons who are not um who who are different persons. Let me use that word. So, in order to explain that, these three persons are they're completely equal in essence and attributes, that is these three persons are fully God. They are fully God. There is none of them that is not fully God or there's none that is lesser to the other in terms of essence and attributes, of deity, of substance. They have the same substance of the same class, right? The none is um subordinate to the other in terms of essence, in terms of attributes, in terms of uh substance. They are the same class of being. Okay, so put that in mind. It's very, very important because one of the um mistakes people make is they assume that when they believe in the doctrine of Trinity, then it means that you have to relegate Christ or the Holy Spirit into a lesser class than God, which is not true. And we will give explanations, more explanations on that as we go on, as we rightly see that we can truly believe that there are three persons in the Godhead, that is God is one God in three persons, and yet all the three are fully God. The three are fully God, as the Bible affirms to us. And these three persons, they play different rules, right? Um I hope you understand this. They play different rules and how they relate to one another and in when they're carrying out their unified purpose, the plan that God has for the world, these three persons has different rules in achieving those um purposes. So, quickly in this teaching, we'll be going through some we use um different approaches. The first approach is to establish from the scripture, biblical evidences for the doctrine of Trinity. Then after establishing from scripture, we will use history history we will look at the historical development of this doctrine over time, what the church has believed um for over 2,000 years on this particular doctrine. And this is quite important because um one of the ways we verify what we believe is by comparing it with what the church over the centuries has believed. There are many people who make the mistake of assuming that um the church is not aware of a particular teaching because they are not teaching it. Meanwhile, the church is aware of that teaching, but they don't teach it because it has been found out not to be correct. I don't know if you get that. So, it's possible that someone is um converted in 2025, for example, and as he's studying scripture, he sees something that looks like truth to him and he looks at everybody around and realizes that no one is teaching this thing that he's seeing. And he might assume that, oh, nobody knows it. Maybe God is just showing him freshly. Before you make that assumption, check through history. It is likely that the church has had other revelation, considered this before and realized that it is not um consistently true and decide not to teach it. So it's not because they have not seen it, rather it is because it has been found out not to be true. That is why they are not teaching it. So let's consider the biblical data and what we'll be doing now is that I will be bringing up a lot of scriptures, and when I say a lot, I mean quite a lot of scriptures to show us that um God is one God. However, there are more than one persons in the Godhead. So, many of these scriptures might not show us the three persons at the same time, but at least they will show us two persons at least at a time. And sometimes they will clearly show us the existence of the three persons of the Godhead all together, and these scriptures will cover both the Old Testament and the New Testament and like in no particular order. In no particular order and um it's an exciting thing to to actually see because you see how much um of God's wisdom is hidden in his word. So, the, we'll look at the history, then I'll make a logical case um for the Trinity using the scriptural data that we have and from our perception as men, for once we can perceive from existence, from reality, I'll make a logical case for the Trinity, trying to defend the um authenticity of the doctrine. Then lastly, we'll look at the implications of believing in the Trinity or not believing in the Trinity, as the case may be. So, what does it imply or what is the implication if I do not believe in the Trinity, you must realize that no Christian doctrine, no um doctrine in the Christian faith stands alone. Whatever you believe on one matter will affect your view on some other matters. All right. So, let's take for example, if you do not believe in the inerrancy of scripture, that is um if you do not believe that the scripture is without errors, you will likely make a lot of mistakes and as there today, we have a lot of people who are trying to correct scriptures because, basically, somewhere in their heart they do not believe in the inerrancy of scripture. So, um we have people trying to correct Apostle Paul today, all right, as funny as it may be. But, that that that um endeavors to correct Apostle Paul comes from a background of not believing that the scripture is inerrant. All right.
