Understanding your Identity 2 — Pastor Segun Michael
A heartfelt worship session featuring a Hausa song declaring Jesus as our helper, followed by a teaching on our new identity in Christ.
Praise the Lord. All right, I noticed that the network is not helping us. So I've changed I've changed into I've changed into the network of my phone. And although we did just have some issues. We are we are we are sorry. We have been trying to battle with the network. We have been trying to battle with the network, but sorry, we have to go straight into using the network of my phone. Sorry, there might be some itches along the road along the way. Bear with us. We don't know what is wrong with the network of the Mifi. I guess it's just the network provider. God bless you. Let us pray. Jehovah, we worship you tonight. Thank you for your faithfulness. We are grateful, Lord. We are grateful. We are grateful, Lord. We are grateful, Lord. Hallelujah, we are grateful. Most are we are grateful. Abba Father, we are grateful. Receive all glory, Lord. Thank you, Father. Lord, we ask that as we gather together to feast with you tonight, our lives will be helped. And your name will be glorified. Thank you, Blessed Redeemer. In Jesus mighty name we have prayed. Amen. All right, please permit me to play that song one more time. And then the teaching starts. Please, let's start the Let's listen to the song one more time. And the title of the song is in Hausa. The title of the song is which means "My helper." My helper. So, please listen to the song and be blessed. Once in a while as the song continues, I may just give some meaning to some words that I said in the song. Thank you. So, listen to the song now. Both in the night or in the dark, I will not be ashamed, I will not be ashamed to call you my lover. Lover of my soul, my helper, my helper. Hallelujah. I will not be ashamed. I will not be. I will not be ashamed to call you my helper. My helper. My helper. I will not be ashamed, my helper. Hallelujah. Both in the war and when there is hunger, you will never abandon me, my lover. I called on your name, and you heard my voice. You lifted up my head. Lover of my soul. Lover of my soul. My helper. My helper. Hallelujah. I will not be ashamed. I will not be. I will not be ashamed to call you my helper. My helper. My helper. I will not be ashamed, my helper. Hallelujah. For me, I will not be ashamed. I will not be afraid. I will not be ashamed. Hallelujah. I will not be afraid to call you my helper. I will not be afraid of any disease. Hallelujah. Blessed be the name of the Lord. Would you like to go ahead and make some declaration? Can you make some declaration that you are my helper. You are the lover of my soul. Please rise to your feet wherever you are, and faithfully make that declaration that you are my lover. You are the lover of my soul, Jesus. I will not be ashamed, and I will not be afraid to say this aloud. Go ahead and make that declaration. Say it with all confidence. Say it with all confidence. Oh, I will not be afraid of any situation. Jesus, you are the lover of my soul. You are the lover of my soul, Jesus. Announce it, announce it even in darkness, even when the warfare is very hot, you have always been there to help my life, to help, to rescue, oh Lord, my lover. The lover of my soul. Lord, I make this declaration aloud, that you are the lover of my soul. Somebody go ahead and say that. Oh, go ahead and say that. That song inspires me each time I listen to that song. I feel like just praising God all night, all day, and all my life. That song inspires me so much. My helper, oh, the lover of my soul. I will not be ashamed of anything, any situation. Even if the country is under the weight of oppression, yet, I love you, Jesus. I love you, Jesus. When situations are not friendly, Jesus, I love you. I love you. Even when the situation bites, oh, I love you. I love you, my lover. I love you, my master, Jesus, my savior. I love you, Lord. Please go ahead and decree that. Hmm. Hallelujah. Some people are doing that. Oh, God bless you as you are doing that. God bless you. Oh, God bless you. God bless you. Oh, Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, In Jesus most wonderful name we have worshiped. You know, I love that song so much. Each time I listen to the song, he said, "I will not be afraid of warfare. I will not be afraid of darkness. Even when darkness comes with his trouble, with his situation, you are still there to rescue me." Oh, that song is wonderful. For those who can pick it in Hausa, I'm sure you will be so blessed. And those who cannot pick it in Hausa, with the little interpretation I've given to it, I'm sure you've got some strength and some inspiration and some message from that song. Oh, thank you, Jehovah. Let us pray. Thank you, our Father. We give you praise. We give you praise. We give you praise, our Father. We give you praise. Lord, as we open your word, Lord, open your mind unto us. Open your mind unto us. Grant unto us clear revelation. Help our lives. Thank you, Blessed Redeemer. In Jesus mighty name we have prayed. Amen. I welcome you once again to this platform. I bless God for your lives. Please, permit me to read the word of God to your hearing. And you can pick your Bible wherever you are and let's study. Let's be genuine. Let's be sincere wherever we are. Let's be genuine. Let's look at the Bible together. Let's be Christians even from afar. Let's be Christians. Even when I can't see you, can we be Christians? Even when I know you are far from where I am, and I actually cannot see what you do, can we be Christians? Let's look at the Bible together. Let's look at the Bible together. The book of um 2 Corinthians chapter chapter 5 and verse 17. 2 Corinthians chapter 5 and verse 17. Therefore, if any man be in Christ, is a new creature. Pay attention to the new. He is a new creature. Old things are passed away. Behold. Anytime you see behold, I have said that a lot of times, listen, anytime you see that, it's a revelation. It's the Lord trying to open our eyes to some secrets. Behold, behold, behold all things, all things, Hallelujah, have become new. I like you to see that scripture very well. Therefore, if any man be in Christ, is a new creature. Old things are passed away. Behold, all things are become new. Behold, all things have become new. The Lord bless the reading of His word for the salvation of our souls in Jesus name. Amen. All right. Last week, last two weeks ago, the last time we met, the Lord was talking to us about our identity. And we are going to conclude this series today, if God helps us to finish it. And then the first thing I saw from what God told us the last meeting was new, simply a new word. Our identity simply means who we are in Christ Jesus. Who we are. The nature of our being in Christ Jesus. What identi- our identity here means means the sum total of our person in Christ Jesus. The sum total of our person. Our identity here represents what we stand to look like. What we represent. How we are being addressed in Christ. How we are being addressed in Christ. If you approach a military cantourment, I don't know if now, those days I grew up in the barracks. Those days, I mean, few years back when we were in the barracks, and you are approaching the Kuje guard. As you are driving or you are moving closer, you hear that man will shout "Halt! Who goes there?" Then you are expected to say "Friend." Then the next thing you hear is "Advance, to be recognized." Then they ask "Who are you?" They ask you, "Who are you?" When I was much younger, when you ask me that question, I'm always angry. Now, why can you be asking me, "Who am I?" How can you be asking me that? I'm human. So don't ask me that. But when I when we started growing up, I realized that the word "Who are you?" means tell us who you are. Show us your identity card. That's what it means. Tell us who you are. That's simply the meaning of it. We want to know who you are. And you know, if your identity is not good enough for the gates to open, then there'll be trouble. If what your introduction is not good enough, then you're in trouble. So the word "who are you?" is not an insult. It is not. The scripture we read last week, the enemy came and then said to Jesus, "If you are the Son of God, if you are truly the Son of God, do this." A master, Jesus, proved to him that he is God indeed. Hallelujah. And proved to him that he is his God and that Satan has to bow to him and not the other way. So, in the agenda of God or in the configuration of the world, any man who must go far in life must be able to define. You see, the question of "Who are you?" is a question you must meet as you journey in life. Is a question you must ask, you know, they ask Paul, "We know Jesus. We know Paul. Who are you?" We know Jesus. We know this person. Who are you? They asked the sons of Sceva. "Who are you?" "We know Jesus." And of course, the only identity card they carry was the identity card of being the son of a priest. And that's not sufficient to handle matter spiritually. I I must tell us tonight that the identity of your church is not sufficient to handle spiritual matter. I need to make it very clear to us that the identity, carrying the identity of a church, auditorium, General Overseer, or your pastor, is not sufficient to empower you for victory. They ask the sons of Sceva, "We know Paul, we know Jesus. Who are you?" The identity here simply means our spiritual stamina, our spiritual connection, and, putting it this way, our spiritual stand. What exactly are you? You know, last When last session, the last session we were we were looking at how many how many people have been messed up by darkness. How some people have suffered so much attack and disgrace. And yet they said they are born again. How people said, how people will come, tell us, ah, he said when I was preaching, I was attacked. They shot at me spiritually. And I lost this part of my body. And the question I ask always, is oh Lord, oh Lord. Is it that carriers of your names of your name, carriers of you who you are, can also be oppressed by darkness? Please don't mix it up. Preachers and genuine Christians can be killed. But what I mean is can darkness come and shot me out of God? And I say, ah, that was what I suffered because I preached Jesus. They they they shot arrow at me and I lost my sight. Oh, I I I have not read that in the Bible. We saw how Jesus accompanied the the three Hebrews into the fire. We saw that that fire in them came out as a being in the king's fire. And the king of kings stopped the fire of the king of Babylon. And of course, can I remind you of what happened when Elijah and the prophets of Baal were on the Mount Carmel. Our God is a consuming fire. So, when we are going through fire, he will accompany us. So, he can make the fire look like AC at his own time. But please, can I say this to you? The attention you give to darkness and spiritual powers, I mean darkness, spiritual powers of darkness, powers of darkness or let me put it that way. Shows that we do not understand who we are. Our identity here stands for what we carry. It stands for what we carry. Let me not go back into what we have. And then we realized that last session the Lord was telling us, that until our understanding, our understanding, be enlightened, our eyes of understanding be enlightened, we may not benefit from what we carry. And we saw that why the church suffers so much appression from darkness, is not because God takes delight in seeing us go through serious operation and torture. It's because we do not know who we are. Understanding who you are is very key to manifesting what you carry. What you do not know you have, you will not use. What you do not know that you carry may not be relevant. May not work for you. Not even me. What you do not know you have, cannot work for you. If I have a cutlass at home, and I need to handle matters with cutlass and I do not know I have a cutlass, then it does not work for me. Understanding is illumination. The Bible says wisdom is the principal things, so get wisdom. In all thy gettings, get understanding. And I remember the Lord showing us a little about the book of John 4, the woman by the well of Sychar, where Jesus started talking to the woman, and the woman would not understand, and she began to say, "Are you greater than our father, who dug this well, and then we've been taking water for it from for years? Are you greater?" Then when his understanding was enlightened, when he got when he regained or clear understanding, oh, oh, our life caught fire. Daniel chapter 4, Daniel chapter 4, I think from verse um, 19 or thereabout. If you read downward, you will see that the king said, "When my understanding came to me, I realized, I realized that the most I reign in the affairs of men. And then, if you read downward, you will now realize again when he said, "And when this my understanding restored, came back, all that I lost were restored." Can I pray for somebody? I want to pray for somebody. Hear the word of the Lord for your life. Tonight, your understanding, the understanding that gives you clear picture of the most the Messiah you carry, is restored. And all that you lost, all that you have missed, the benefit of this kingdom that you have missed, is restored tonight. In the name of Jesus Christ. Power is restored. Your authority as a son of this kingdom is restored. In the name of Jesus Christ. I speak a grace tonight, everyone listening to the word of God, your understanding is broadened. Your understanding is broadened, your understanding receives fire, and so whatever you have lost all these years, Oh, my God, oh, my God, all that you have lost all these years, the benefit of this kingdom that you have lost, your place of authority, Oh, your inheritance in the kingdom, your place as an authority in the kingdom, that you have lost, that you have been short changed of, yeah, the Lord is saying tonight, they are restored. You have lived below who you are. You have suffered so much loss because you have no clear understanding of who you are. Tonight, Yeah, the word of the Lord for your life. Go ahead and pray wherever you are. Go ahead and pray wherever you are. I receive back all that I lost. I receive back the authority I carry in this kingdom. I activate the authority I receive in Christ Jesus. Every kingdom tormenting my life, oh, henceforth, henceforth, I make this declaration, I am your God. Oh, I am your God. Hallelujah. In Jesus mighty name we have prayed. Amen. Praise the Lord. Praise the living Jesus. I am so happy to tell you that the identity of a man, your identity is actually the sum total of your place in Christ Jesus. Having a clear picture of who you are in Christ is power. Having a clear picture of who you are in Christ is power. So, I like to show you further what it means tonight. I like to show you. I am going to be showing you two things now. The finished work at Calvary that gave us the place we have as sons of the kingdom as heirs to the throne as God on earth. Hallelujah. The finished what the work at Calvary did for us. Not that I want to analyze the work at Calvary, just what the work at Calvary did for us. And unfortunately, many Christians do not they don't benefit from this. It's so painful that Christians are more conscious of the power of darkness and the havoc they cause than the power they carry. Many are not aware that they are lions. And the only reason we are being threatened with those terrible dreams and those terrible situations you are facing is because there's something about you that is causing trouble. Christians are not aware that we have reduced ourselves by the way we think and we handle matters. I see more of grasshoppers. Our doctrines are reduced to the doctrine of grasshopper syndrome. We teach the spirit, we teach the message of grasshopper, becoming grasshoppers in the church. We make people think lesser than they are in the Lord Jesus. We tell people things more about darkness and the havoc they cause than telling them about the power they carry in Jesus. Most times Oh,…
