Discipleship - The workings of God in you 3 — Prophet Cherub Obadare
Prophet Cherub Obadare teaches that discipleship is essential for every believer, illustrating God's orderly process of training vessels like John the Baptist.
understanding. Thank you for guiding our path. Thank you for helping us all through. We appreciate you, Father. Blessed be your holy name. Like never before, this evening you will open our understanding. You bring your word to us with great power and understanding. In Jesus name, we have prayed. Amen. Hallelujah. Praise God. Hallelujah. Um, I think this is the third series on discipleship, the walkings of God in you. We have seen in our previous teaching that um, discipleship is a must to be a vessel in the hand of God. You must be discipled. And I would like to react to a question somebody asked me on this on social media, on Facebook, precisely. He said, "Who discipled John the Baptist?" and that um, is he a must? Every believer must be discipled? I've been able to answer the person, but um, for the sake of those who saw the question, uh, and then that may not um see the answer when I responded on Facebook and um I took him to the book of um Luke, where um Zachariah was given prophecy while he was serving in the temple about the son God was given to him. I'm trying to respond to the question somebody asks on social media that can is he a must for every believer to be discipled? If he's a must, who discipled John the Baptist? So, and I quickly, you know, went to the scripture and, you know, responded um like this that um you will see in the book of Luke, how um God spoke to Zachariah, who happened to be a priest about John the Baptist. So, literally, John the Baptist grew in the house of a priest. He was trained, he was mentored by a priest. So, he didn't just appear on board. He was literally trained. God precisely gave him to a priest because he's the prophet that will end the old order of the prophetic ministry. He was the last prophet that spoke about Jesus. So, he was literally trained by a priest. So, his his father was his mentor. Uh so, there's nobody that we imagine and become a mouthpiece for God that will not go through discipleship. Anybody you see like that, quote me anywhere. Anybody you see, emerge as a pastor, as an apostle, as a prophet, as a teacher, and that keep discipleship, the person is is answering for somebody else, not for God. He's speaking for somebody, not for God. He could be speaking for himself. He could be speaking for the people who chose him or speak for the devil. Unfortunately, we have so many people who assume they are speaking for God today in our generation. They are everywhere in churches. Some of them already have started churches. Some of them have ministries, but have never been discipled. They are teachers who have never been taught. Um I I wrote somewhere the Holy Spirit was teaching me a few things and the Holy Spirit told me, he said, "Remember where I warned my disciples. He said, "Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees." Beware of the yeast. You see that in the book of Matthew chapter 6, what is yeast? Doctlining of the Pharisees. What is it about the Pharisees? He said they are teachers who try to teach what they don't know and what they don't practice. Be careful. Beware. I'm going to very soon we are going to look at the things Jesus called the disciples to beware of. Number one, when he was teaching them, he said, "Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees, the living of the Pharisees. Their teachings, their doctrines, because they are teachers of the law who try to teach what they don't understand. They don't understand the law. They try to teach it, they don't understand it one, and number two, they don't practice it. The Bible says, He said, "You are, because you know, he was talking to the Pharisees. He said, "You are, because you know not the scripture and the power of God. So, the power of God, it's in knowing of the scripture. And that was why their ministry was empty of power. They are always confronting Jesus, healing people. I can't imagine somebody say, "How will you heal somebody who is sick on Sabbath day? They are always confronting anything that has to do with God's power. Why? They are trying to teach what they don't understand. Praise God. And so, um John the Baptist was discipled, I I I believe because the Bible did not state it out that, but for somebody to grow in the hand of a priest, you know, and he became a prophet eventually, he was discipled by his his father. And I want to say this, in the Old Testament, God called people in different capacity, that literally did not go through the kind of discipleship required in the dispensation of the New Testament. In the Old Testament, God called men, men like Samson, you know, his parents were supposed to be his disciple, but he wouldn't his discipler, he wouldn't listen to them. And that was why he went wild. The Bible say and God told his mother, the kind of child Samson should be, but Samson wouldn't follow. He was not even supposed to marry a Philistine woman. He was not supposed to eat anything unclean. But he wouldn't listen, and because he overpowered his parent, they left him to do whatever pleases him. And so we must begin to understand that in the in the system of God, raising people or using people, he doesn't just hand pick people. He has process, he has pattern, he has order. God is a God of order. Even in the choosing of me, I remember many years ago, I I went in 14 days tranns, and one of the greatest gifts a lady gave to me is the book of Brock, what God desires or demand in his vessels. Is that desire or demand? And that book is about discipleship. God can take 50 years to train somebody he wants to use for one year. God is not in a haste to announce a man. That's why many of us are not as popular as we want to be. Yeah. He is not in a haste to put a man on a platform, because if God puts you on a platform, you you gain influence over humanity. And so God is not in a haste. He took him 30 years before he announced Jesus. Listen to me, where was Jesus? All of the time, John the Baptist, John the Baptist was like the main man in the city. Jesus was kept quiet. He was being brewed upon. Jesus now, Jesus that came in the very likeness of God, not until he was 30, he followed the other through which God announcing people, he he had to go through John the Baptist who who was the main man that God gave his on. He was God mouth piece and John the Baptist baptizing order. So, one of the other in the body of Christ is discipleship. And you see, listen to me, I I I was not too surprised and I was kind of surprised when somebody told you know, when somebody asked that question on social media, that is he a must to be disciple? If you don't want to be disciple, then what do you want to do? The question is, you want to be a minister, but you don't want to be trained. At times people don't understand discipleship. They thought discipleship end with the apostles. They thought discipleship is about um people who want to become a pastor, that okay, somebody who wants to be a pastor, so he must go through discipleship class. No. Discipleship is the preliminary for every believer. After you get born again, you must be trained. It's it's it's key. It's the pro it's the it's the it's like in in um in in the in the institution, there's something we call core courses. No matter what you get in other courses, if you fail your core courses, you are not graduate, you are not graduating. Be good in borrowed courses, be good in all every, there's a core course, I read accounting. We have our core course was financial accounting. It doesn't matter how good you are with management, business, you know, management and statistics, you can be good with GNS and if you fail core course, which is the reason you are being trained to be a professional accountant, you are not graduating. You're not graduating. That is how important the subject of discipleship is in the hand of God and in the heart of God. When he started the ministry, the Bible say in the book of Luke chapter 6, let me show you, look some of the scriptures we have seen before. Luke chapter 6 and verse 12. And it came to pass in the in those days that he went out into a mountain to pray. Why did he go to a mountain to pray? And continued all night, all night in prayer to God. Verse 13 answers what he did in verse 12. And he, and when it was day, he called unto him, that place where you where there is him, add himself. His disciples. I've told you in our previous teaching, I said, "Disciples means trainee, learner, student, apprentice. It's a listen to me, a disciple is somebody who is taught how to learn, first, not taught how to teach." People want to become teachers when they have not been taught, listen to me, you can you can not be a teacher when you have not been taught how to learn. There's a teaching on how to learn. That was why he said in Matthew 11, he say, "Learn of me, learn." There's a teaching on how to learn. People who come to church, get born again, few months into that, they want to start taking Bible studies. I remember when many years ago, when we started this ministry, I had there was this woman that came, and you know, she told me all her stories, you know, where she's been and all of that, and she came to church service for like a month, and she started asking if they could give her pupish so that she can start taking women Bible study, and I was like you know, that's um she's good in that area, and you know this is this is the problem. People are quick to speaking what they have not heard. They are quick to showing people the root the path they have not walked in. You have not walked in a path yet you want to show somebody. Let me tell you something, coming to the pulpit to preach is beyond preparing a sermon. It's teaching your life. Now let me tell you this. One of the demand on the life of a teacher or a preacher of the word, it's not his public life. You can be good with you know, articulation, ability to communicate your thoughts, you can be good in arranging scriptures, interpreting them. But if your life has not interpreted the scripture, then you are not a true teacher. You have escaped a class, discipleship. And so, you know, I I wouldn't allow that. When she came, I said, "No, you know, that was one of the reasons we started, you know, the foundation class, that look, let's start having people go through so that they will be taught, they will know where we are coming from and where we are going." Now, these are some of the things that have destroyed churches. In order to keep people as members of your church, okay, let's give them something to do. Jesus wouldn't allow them do anything. Even the only time he allowed them, when they were rejoic about what happened in Matthew chapter 10, he gave them in temporal anointing, and the effect of that anointing got into them. The Bible say they came back and began to celebrate that demons heard their voices. And the Bible says, Jesus said unto them, he said, "Don't rejoice because demons were cast out. Rejoice that your name is written in the kingdom and in the book of life." Praise God. Hallelujah. So, we must for you to enjoy the benefits of being used by God, seek that God walk on you before you go walking for him. Yeah, allow him to walk on you. Don't be quick to going after fame. I was explaining last week, I said, "What the motive and the motivation of Judas was not to be trained to become a voice for Jesus. He followed because Jesus was having an opening ministry. His ministry was the ministry that everybody was looking up to see. Jesus, the the the Judas once wants to be part of that. And I said, "That is not discipleship. That is being a comrade. You are in it because we are the ones reigning. They are in it because we are the ones people are talking about. When the chips are down, they would you will find them nowhere because they are not disciples." Yeah. And so, let's let's let's be careful why we are following. He said, "Follow me." Mark chapter 1 and verse 16. Mark chapter 1 and verse 16. Now, as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew, his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishers. That's that was their career. Something is about to happen to these guys who had a career in fishing. They were fishers. And something I want to tell you today, there is nobody Jesus called to be a disciples that were not found doing something. You are not a disciples of the a disciple of Jesus, or you are not into ministry, or you don't go and become a student under somebody because you don't have a job. Or your CV is everywhere, nobody has called you therefore you become a. After some times, your motive will show. They were men in career. Verse 17 says, "Jesus said unto them, come here after me and I will make you to become fishers of men. I will make you." Can you pray this prayer? Say, "Make me, Lord." You see, when I read these scriptures, I pause to pray. Because I am still a work in progress. Lord, let me not jump out of the making. Many people were in the process, they came out not completely made. When you bake cake that is not fully baked, it becomes a poison to the eaters, because they will have running stomach. You see, I pray this prayer when I see scriptures like this and I say, "God, help me not to jump out of the making. I will make you. Imagine that in the three years that they were with him, some of them, after one and a half years, they jump out. Imagine that what would have happened with them. I will make you. He's listening, he's the maker of men. He makes men. And he has a pattern. He doesn't make men to become activists. He make men to become like him. I will make you become fishes. Now, the the the first process of becoming fishes of men was for them to first become like him. No wonder in Act 17, after some times, men saw them and they said they were Christians. They had become like him. Can you pause and pray this prayer? Say, "Make me become like you." Oh, Holy Spirit, help me. And the Kisikadahushundemangafatilakotaliyasa. Let me not jump out of the making. Holy Spirit, help me. Help me, Holy Spirit. Let preaching not make me jump out of the making. Amen. One of the um things that have made men jump out of the process of making is gifts. Gifts can be deceitful. You think you are made, you're already made because now you have clarity in prophecy. You see things with accuracy and precision, and so if care is not taken, you jump out of the making, thinking that is all there is. It's one of the things that um become a challenge for many young believers, especially in our in in our generation, because there's a way gifts make you become so loud, that if you're not careful, you will come out when he has not shown you. One of the things that can become so tragic to a man is to show up when God has not shown him. You won't last for too long, because he's not the one showing you. He Listen to me. The Bible says a voice from heaven. It was not that one person heard it. "This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased. After 30 years, This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased, in whom I am well pleased. What an announcement. That was why the Bible say, and his fame went abroad, why? A voice from heaven spoke. So everyone, do you know why he said in Matthew 17? He says, "Hear ye him." Meaning he commanded every ear to listen. No wonder anywhere he speak, people marvel. Say, "What manner of wisdom is this? Why? There was an authority, he has a legal voice over his life. I remember in somewhere in the scripture where, I think in the book of John, the Bible say, "And the brothers of Jesus began to tell him that he should go to Jerusalem, that how can you be doing this kind of miracles and hide yourself? And how can you be doing this kind of miracles and hide yourself? That how can you be doing this kind of miracles and hide yourself? That how can you be doing this kind of miracles and hide yourself? That how can you be doing this kind of miracles and hide yourself? That how can you be doing this kind of miracles…
