Discipleship: The Priesthood of Christ — Prophet Cherub Obadare
This message examines the priesthood of Christ, contrasting His sinless nature and eternal sacrifice with the temporal offerings of the Old Testament…
because I go to your father and to my father. He was going as because when a priest is going into the Holy of Holies, he goes sanctified, uninterrupted, because the sacrifice he is carrying is the sacrifice to plea for the sin of the people for the year, until another year comes. And so when Mary met Christ, she met him as the high priest, she met him as the sacrifice. He was the blood sacrifice, he was the high priest. So, when Mary met him and wanted to say, "Don't touch me, for I go to present myself to your father and to my father." And so when when Jesus went into heaven, he was like the high priest that goes into the Holy of Holies. And we are going to be looking at, you know, little differences. Number one, we'll see who is a high priest? Who is the high priest? Let's open our Bible to the book of Hebrews chapter 5. Hebrews chapter 5 from verse 1. For every high priest taken from among men is ordained for men in things pertaining to God. And I priest is the man that is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sin. This is the primary assignment of a priest. That he may offer gifts and sacrifices for sin. Who can have compassion on the ignorant, on them that are out of the way? For that he himself also is compassed with infirmity. By the re- by reason hereof, he ought as for the people, so also for himself to offer sins. This priest chosen in the order of Messiah covenant have sacrificed for himself first because he's a man. So, he will have to make sacrifice. In fact, if you read how the priest goes into the Holy of Holies, they tie rope around him. In case if his sacrifices is not enough to cover for his sin, he may die. inside the Holy of Holies. So, it is the rope they tie around him they use to pull him back out of the Holy of Holies. Now, one of the reasons I'm taking this teaching, it will make you appreciate the works of Christ. To make you see beyond Christ died for my salvation. How did he die? Question. Because some believers don't know beyond I have received salvation. How did you read for God so love the world. How? How did it just happen? It's not a magic. It took process. God dramatize it with men. He acted it out before Christ played into it. Men were used in different form to dramatize the reality of the high pri- the priesthood of Christ. Praise the Lord. Hallelujah. He said, and no man, let's look at quickly because of our time, Leviticus chapter 4. Just want to show you something. Leviticus chapter 4. Very important. I'm reading from verse 1. And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a soul shall sin through ignorance against any of the commandment of the Lord concerning things which ought to be done and shall do against any of them. If the priest that is anointed to anointed if the priest that is anointed do sin, according to the sin of the people, let them bring him for his sin which he has seen, a young bullock without blemish unto the Lord for a sin offering. That is, the priest that is to take the sin of the people, they are offering and sacrifice because he's a man. He is prone to sin himself. If the man sin, he should offer sacrifice first before he is qualified to offer for the people. But glory to God. Hallelujah. The Bible says, in second Corinthians 5:21, verse 21, He made he who had no sin. The priesthood of Christ is the priesthood of a man. He he did not need to make sacrifice for himself. He is the sacrifice. Jesus was the sacrifice. Now here, the high priest, according to Mosaic covenant, we have to make a sacrifice for his own sin. Let me show you a scripture. Very important. First, second Corinthians chapter 5 verse 21. He said, he made he who had no sin. So, in the priesthood of Christ, Christ was sinless. So, he did not need sacrifice for himself. He was the sacrifice for the people. Because the sacrifice was given to forgive and give bring remission to the sin of the people. So, he didn't sin. The Bible say, um, in the book of John, he said, he the the prince of this world came and found nothing in me. Christ speaking that there was nothing the devil could hold against me. Praise God. Hallelujah. Let's look at first Peter chapter 2. From verse 21. First Peter 2:21, for even here on where unto, where y'all called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example that y'all should follow his step. Verse 22, who did no sin, Neither was Gil found in his mouth, who when he was reviled, reviled not again. When he suffered, he treated not, but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously. For he, for his own self bear our sin on his body, on the tree, that he being dead to sin, should live unto righteousness by whose stripe we are healed. Now let me make an illustration for you. On the cross, he was a sacrifice. On the cross. The way the sacrifice for sin is taken to the blazing lover and it is it is it is it is it is killed and the blood flows and the priest first it is a sacrifice that precede entrance into the Holy of Holies. And so, on the cross, he became the lamb that was slain. At resurrection when he ascended into heaven, he became the priest. So, he was the sacrifice. He was the priest presenting himself. So, on the cross, it was like the sacrifice. So, when he resurrected, when Mary run to him, he said, "Don't touch me, for I go." So, he was going as at that time as a priest presenting a sacrifice. Where is the sacrifice? His blood. Are you getting me now? And so, when when you say I am saved, you should understand how you were saved. Some people don't understand. You know, this salvation when you see the process, you place value on what has been done for you in Christ Jesus. Now, the Bible say, who did no sin, Jesus didn't have one sin. He made he who had no sin. I just read to you in Leviticus chapter 4, that the high priest, because he's a man, he can sin. Though he is the high priest. So, first and foremost, he will make sacrifice for himself to qualify. But Jesus was the sacrifice. Was the sacrifice. Shout Hallelujah. Hallelujah. So, another thing you should understand, that when there is a change in priesthood, in the priesthood of the Messianic law, or the Messianic covenant, there are laws guiding the presentation of the sacrifices and the presentation of the people. Number one, the sacrifice cover only for a year. That's why the high priest will have to come out again. And next year, people come together again, trusting God that this year their sacrifices will be will be accepted. But for Jesus, the Bible say he entered once. No, listen to me. Go and study in the entire Old Testament, there is no priest that enter and sit down. He will have to render the sacrifice and come out. But the Bible say he entered and he seated. The only priest that is seated. Why? He finished the work. So, there are the sacrifices they made in the Old Testament was in temporal unfinished sacrifice, so they have to come every year. The Bible say he entered once and presented a perfect sacrifice. Why? It is his blood. Why? It's he had no sin. Was the perfect sacrifice pleasing to God. Now, I like us to see number one, right this down. We are comparing the Jewish priesthood and the priesthood of Christ. So, a change in a priest is a change in the order. Many people are still living in the order of the priesthood of the Messianic law, many churches today. That's why they have this approach when they come to church. Psalm 51. They believe they are making a sacrifice for their sin every time they come for a service. The way high priest goes and prevents presents sacrifice for the sin of the people every year. And so, some people still there are churches who still especially Orthodox churches who still live in that mentality. That before you pray, you must make sacrifice of prayers for forgiveness of your sin. Where did they get that from? In the in the Leviticus and in the priest in the Messianic priesthood. And that's why in the New Testament or in the new era of the new priesthood, because as soon as the priesthood change, the dispensation change. In the new dispensation, we don't go by the sacrifice of a high priest of a man. We We stand before God by his sacrifice. So, when God sees him, he sees you. That's why the Bible say he has made a king and priest. So, the way God sees him as a priest, he's beginning to see you too as a priest. Praise God. Hallelujah. Are you getting something? Number one, right this down. He is a priest forever. He is said that. Say that after him. Say, "Christ is a priest forever." In the mosaic law or the mosaic dispensation, there is a change in priesthood. When one dies, they will ordain another high priest. But when Christ died, there was no need to ordain another one. He resurrected and became a priest forever. So, let's look at Hebrew that same Hebrew chapter 5 Hebrews chapter 5 verse 6 Christ a priest forever. Number one, Christ a priest forever. Hebrews chapter 5 and verse 6, I read from here. As he said also, in another place, thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. Thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. Christ is a priest forever. Let me read verse 7. Who in those days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayer and supplication with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death and was heard in that he feared, though he were a son, yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered. Being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him. verse 10. God of God and high priest after the order of Melchizedek. Praise God. Hallelujah. Hebrews chapter 7 verse 23. Open your Bible. Hebrews 7:23 And truly there were many there there were many priests because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death. Talking about the Old Testament priesthood. Many people became where in the the high priest during the days of of the apostles was called a Gamaliel. It was the high priest that the Holy Spirit spoke to him one of the I think in Acts chapter 4, when they were punishing the disciples, the Holy Spirit spoke because he was the high priest. So, they will die and they will choose another person. Say, and they truly were many priests because they were not suffer to continue by reason of death. But this man, one of the reason Jesus had to come as a man, it takes a man to be a priest. It takes a man to a spirit cannot be a priest. It takes a man. So, you see the Bible say, "But this man, because he continued forever, has an unchangeable priesthood." That's why the sacrifice he presented is once and forever. Nobody can take his place. Now verse 25. Now this this listen this verse 25 is very powerful. He says, "Wherefore he is able also to save them that that to save them to the uttermost that come to God by him. Seeing he liveth forever to make intercession for them." This is the reason people talk about eternal salvation. That our priesthood is a priesthood forever. And he's able to save them equally forever that comes to him. Shout Hallelujah. Hallelujah. He's able to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him. Seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them. Praise the Lord. Hallelujah. And when you hear the blood of Jesus speak better things. He's talking about intercession. It's not that Jesus is before the throne of God saying, "God, you know these people, this should no, it is the it is the sacrifice of the blood that speaks. It speaks better things. The blood, the speaking of the blood is the intercessions. Where in the book of Hebrew where you know, the writer of Hebrew was saying, "The blood of Jesus speak better things. The speaking is the intercession. And when you say we we plead the blood, we plead the shedding of the blood, the shedding of the blood is intercession. Are you getting that now? And so, he's a priest forever. Meanwhile, in the Jewish or in the mosaic covenant, in the Old Testament, they are there are there were many priests. Why? Because of death. They have to die and choose another person. Number two, write it down. He is a perfect priest without sin. I have said this before. Number two, write it down. He is a perfect priest without sin. Get me an handkerchief, please. He is a perfect priest, a priest without sin. Hebrews chapter 4 verse 15. Look at Hebrews chapter 4. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmity, but was in all points tempted like like as we are, and yet without sin. I love this. He was tempted the way a man should be tempted, and yet didn't commit sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. He was tempted and yet without sin. So, he is a perfect priest without sin. Meanwhile, we saw in Leviticus chapter 4 that in the priesthood of the mosaic mosaic covenant, mosaic covenant, he would have to make sacrifice. The priest would have to make sacrifice for himself first. And so, if he's acceptable, then he is able to make sacrifice for others. But Jesus had no sin. And that's why you see, you must remove this sinful mentality that many of us have. You you are too sin conscious. The sacrifices that was made for you was made once and forever. And that sacrifices brings about substitution. You he made he who had no sin to become sin. That through him we will become the righteousness. So, when he sacrificed and made a sacrifice for us, because he had no sin, and he is a perfect priest, we became righteous by that sacrifice, not by your own sacrifice. Not by the numbers of fasting you have done or that you can do. You became righteous by that sacrifice. That is perfect. Impeccable. Shout Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Number three, he is the sacrifice that was offered to God. He is the sacrifice. Jesus is the sacrifice. In the Old Testament, animals were the sacrifice. Bullocks, they used bullocks, they used lamb. So, in the New Testament, Jesus was the sacrifice. Hebrews chapter 9 from verse 11. Hebrews chapter 9. If you have your Bible, open Hebrews chapter 9, verse 11. But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and a more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building, neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. Verse 13. For if the blood of bulls and of goats and the ashes of the of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifies to the purifying of the flesh, how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge our conscience from dead work to serve the living God? Praise the Lord. Hallelujah. So, he was the sacrifice. It was a sacrifice that was offered. He was the high priest. So, when he went in before God, he went in as the high priest and equally the sacrifice. It was his blood. It was not the blood of an animal. It was the blood of Christ. And you see, when when we speak about the blood of Christ, we are talking about the blood of a man who was innocent. The only man on earth who did not have one sin. There was no because blood speaks. So, his blood was able to speak for us because of what was made of the blood. He was sinless. There was no need for sacrifice for him. So, he became the sacrifice for us. Number five, let's go on. And and we saw in the in the in the Old Testament that in the Old Testament they use goats. Now, I was imagining when I was studying this scripture. Imagine the kind how mercy When I say mercy, I'm not saying how how smelly, dirty the temple will look like. Blood of goat, bah. Blood of boos. When you kill animal and the blood stay too long, it start smelling. I can't imagine how the all these how the priests could withstand the smell of those blood. And that was what the people depended on. So, literally,…
